Is Dry Shampoo just another product that will clutter up your bag?

Is Dry Shampoo just another product that will clutter up your bag?

How many things do you throw into your bag in the morning on the off-chance it’ll be useful later in the day?

Quite often you end up with things that live there at the bottom of your bag for a while before eventually getting thrown out due to it's leaky or battered appearance. Then you feel guilty because you've hardly even used it.

Dry shampoo sounds like it would be one of those type of products. But really it should be the hair product that's at the front of the queue when you’re packing your bag at the start of the day. Here’s why we like it.

It’s great for busy people when washing your hair isn't convenient due to lack of time or facilities such as when you're travelling or at festivals.
It's perfect for freshening up after a workout or when you don't have time for a full wash and restyle.
It's a good standby to keep in your bathroom where you can refresh your hair between washes.

When we made a first batch of dry shampoo we took advice from our testers to find out what they didn't like about the current types of dry shampoo on the market and also what they would like to see us put in our formulas.

They told us they didn’t like the spray dry shampoos as they are these are bad for the environment. Aerosol propellants are known to harm the ozone layer as well as being bad for your hair and skin.

There were also other ingredients, such as talc and benzene, which you really don't want to be putting on your hair.

Also, the consistency of some of these spray shampoos was variable, with some being quite drying and others leaving a sticky residue.

And they preferred types that weren’t coloured with powders, such as cocoa, ginger or cinnamon as the smell could be overpowering.

The Flowery Whiff Dry Shampoos

We took these suggestions into account and made sure they were addressed in our formulas. We chose a selection of ingredients that had additional benefits for your hair and skin as well as freshening up your hair.

See the benefits of the natural powders we use here.

As well as our usual principles of being;

  • Colour free

  • Paraben free

  • Petrolatum free

  • Preservative free

  • Vegan and Cruelty Free

  • Plant and natural powder based ingredients

  • Packaged in environmentally friendly, non-aerosol dispenser

Our dry shampoo range is packaged in shaker tubs or refill pouches which are both fully compostable. We’ve found they actually give you better control on how much powder you are putting in your hair compared to an aerosol dispenser. Some people may like the convenience of an spray, but to be honest there's not much difference. Shaking it in or spraying takes the same amount of effort and both only take seconds. Brushing out is where you'll see the difference. There is an instant uplift compared to aerosols as their added ingredients sometimes make your hair feel a bit tacky and “blown about”

Best Ways To Use Dry Shampoo

If you remember these tips you'll find that dry shampoo is very convenient and works wonders on your hair when it needs a quick refresh and lift.

Use your fingers to massage the dry shampoo into your scalp, distributing it evenly and preventing it from building up in one place.
Place a towel over your shoulders if your wearing dark clothing. Saves on time brushing it off your clothing later.
Use it sparingly. You don't need much powder to have an effect otherwise it may look white and dusty.
Just apply to the roots or where the hair is particularly greasy.Don't use it as a substitute for regular washing.
For those who are cutting down on using shampoo so often, it’s recommended you should wash once a week with applications of dry shampoo between water washes.

We recommend washing hair after two or three applications of dry shampoo to prevent any build up.

Our shampoos add many different powders such as allantoin, and kaolin clay, which are good for your hair and skin. We also have six perfume ranges so you are sure to find a fragrance that suits you.
